Monkee-ing Around

I think it is time for a little ART!! I have been posting a lot about fitness and recipes, but I don’t think I have posted a single thing about what I have been up to, art-wise, this semester! This semester I am actually having a lot of fun in my art classes. I am taking Advanced Digital Art, Introductory Photography, 3D Design, and aFeminist of Readings of Culture (or something like that).

Obviously you know I am know going to be posting about my English class, because I am the Fitness Artist!! Today I want to share a piece of my work that I submitted to an exhibition that was being put on the in town I go to school. It was called Cover of a Cover. Now, the rules were pretty simple, all we had to do, basically, was recreate an album cover! Of course there were a few other rules, but for those not entering, you don’t need to know them! I was pretty excited about this exhibition, they put posters up every year for it, but I never seemed to have the time to submit anything.

I am just as grateful for music as the next person, but I’m honestly not that “into it” I guess you could say. I know words to songs, but I never know the name of the song or the artist. There are tons of songs that people tell me are CLASSICS, yet I have never even heard of them 😡 The task of picking out an album to recreate was kind of hard for me to do. It is always easy to create art when you are passionate about what you are working on. Since I am not a music expert, I figured I would go with some thing that I am kind of familiar with, yet could do a little research and find what I needed to and not have any problems. Soooooo the album cover I chose to redo was, the Monkees!!!

Looking at this cover, to me, it is BORING! hahah. I mean, it does its purpose, shows unity and all that. But, I like COLOR!!! You will probably never see me do any type of art work that is black and white. If you do, it was probably mandated by the teacher! However, back to this cover. I like the picture of the Monkees all together and showing a fun side, but I get very distracted by the YELLOW song titles! If anything, those can go on the back, not BAMMM in your face yellow right there!

So initially I was going to recreate the same photo, but in a cartoon aspect. Then i disregarded that quickly, because well, its MY art, not someone else’s. So I did a little research on these boys. I looked up other art work, adds, posters, and a few other things. Then I started me piece! i didn’t have a full plan, just knew that I wanted to incorporate the 60-70’s “groovey” look to it. I started with making cartoon heads for each band member, assigned them each a color, incorporated their instrument into it, and WAAH-LAA!! done!

2D Design 24/7!

Have you ever had a class that the professor thinks that class is your only class? I have one of those right now!! My sD Design class is interesting and fun, but I would like it a lot better if it was my ONLY class! The project are very time consuming.

However, I did really like our last project that was due today. We had to come up with 3 sets of instructions. Then we had to follow our instructions and complete the work of art three times. At the end we had a total of 9 images.

The one I am going to show you is my favorite. My instructions where:

1. Choose a song to listen to either individually or as a group.

2. Pick the thickness of Sharpie you would like to use.

3. Start music and place point down on the paper.

4. Move the point around the page to the rhythm of the music for about 45 seconds to 1 minute.

5. Make sure that the beginning point and the ending point make enclosed shapes, if they don’t do that now.

6. Pick a medium and fill in the enclosed shapes, be creative.

Those were my instructions, this is what I came up with for my 3 images.

Ultimate Reset: Day 4 & 2D Project

Today marks 4 days DOWN of Beachbody’s Ultimate Reset!! I actually am still so excited to be doing this!! I have been reading some other’s blogs to see what their experiences have been. Some people have had headaches and body aches.. stuff along those lines. For me, I haven’t had any headache (besides the little one I had last night, which I think it was because I was tired). When I woke up this morning I felt pretty well rested, actually woke up like 10 mins before my alarm went off.. coincidence? ehh maybe?

Breakfast was a little on the go. I know we are supposed to be mindful while we are eating, but I didn’t really have a choice since I had class at 9:00 am and I was an hour and a half away at my boyfriends. I was sooooo glad today was something eat and kind of grab and go for breakfast. I had some blackberries and raspberries, greek yogurt, and a piece of whole wheat toast! I popped the toast in the toaster and washed my fruit. The fruit was really easy to eat in the car, as was the toast. Then it was time for the yogurt, note to self, never try to eat yogurt while driving again. I would imagine it is basically the same as trying to put on make up while driving hahaha. I made it through okay, but I will not be doing that again!

I got back to my apartment and went to class. I’ll have to vent about that class in a post another time! I was pretty hungry by the time my class was over. I ate breakfast at 7:00am but had class 9-11:30!! I got home took my supplements, then finally got to eat around 12:30. This was the first time I was actually pretty hungry during the reset so far. I was perfectly fine after eating my lunch! Today was sushi, just like I had for dinner last night. I also had lentil lime salad and a microsalad. The sushi is deff growing on me! I just wish it was easier to cut!!

I had a nice long break between my classes today. I was able to shower and have a phone meeting with my Beachbody Success partner, and do a few other things! I went to class, came home and ate my snack! I had multi-grain crackers and some peanut butter, that wasn’t a combo on the snack sheet, but pb and an apple was and there was crackers and hard boiled eggs, so I just switched the protein a little!! I decided I would be productive today. We have a project due Wednesday for my 2D Design class. I brought it home since we started it in class today.

We had an assignment over the weekend to make shapes have have them UNITE and DIVIDE and a few other tasks. Then in class today we had to pick one and do a project with it. These two pictures are my progress so far.

I will have to keep you updated on how they turn out!! So after I painted a little I made dinner. Dinner tonight was Quinoa, stri-fry, and cucumber and tomato salad. All I have to say is, making that stir-fry was SCARY!!! You have to put the oil on high heat!! Well it was popped and scaring me hahahaha! it tasted AMAZING though, so worth it!! I then prepped lunch for tomorrow since I will be on campus for lunch.

After dinner I watch a little tv with my roommate and decided it was almost time for bed! I am pretty tired now and just want to go to bed! I told myself that I will just post on here and then LIGHTS OUT!! So goodnight everyone!

Syllabus Week

This week marks the beginning of my 8th semester in college. HOLY COW, right!? I should be graduating at the end of the semester! Well, I am not 🙁 But that’s okay, I was not anywhere near ready to graduate since I just settled on a major last semester. 😡 With that being said, I will be in college for a total of 10 semesters haha!

For just a little sneak peek into my semester, this is my schedule.

  • 2D Design Class
  • College Algebra
  • Intermediate Digital Art
  • Intro to Painting
  • Contemporary Women’s Health

I have three classes that go towards my major ( the three art classes haha) and then a math class to fill out a GenEd requirement, and then the Women’s health class to aid in the completion of my Gender Studies Minor.

Here are my reactions so far to my classes I have!

1. 2D Design Class: I think I am really going to like this class. It is half lecture and have hands on projects. Today we got our first assignment; it was working with Visual Unity and Visual Divide. It is such a simple task that it seems challenging hahaha! It combines drawing and all different types of art into one class. I am really excited to learn all the different aspects that will be taught in this class.

2. College Algebra: For this class I was not too thrilled that I needed to take a math class. Don’t get me wrong, I used to LOVE math and did really well… in high school. So 4 years down the road and not having to take a single math class, that part of my brain is a LITTLE dusty! The teacher goes really fast and doesn’t do well explaining everything thoroughly. I hope that my brain will kick it into gear and I will be okay!

3. Intermediate Digital Art: This class I am super excited to take! I am concentrating in this part of art, so i should be excited!! hahah. Anyway, I think that this will be my favorite class and we will learn A LOT. There isn’t much to say about this class because this is the only one we haven’t really done anything in yet! :p

4. Intro to Painting: Ahhhh painting! I have a feeling this is going to be a love/hate relationship. I have never ever taken a painting class before. i have always wanted to learn how to paint, and it would be awesome if I ended up being good at it! Though, I think its going to be harder than it looks, which can get very frustrating.

5. Contemporary Women’s Health: This I think is going to be my relaxing class. It is a class full of all girls with two female professors. I have a feeling it is going to have very open discussions and some interesting topics will come up.
